What's the Buzz About NoSQL Databases?

What's all the buzz about NoSQL databases? Are you missing out on a huge new technology? Terms such as the following are frequently tossed about:
- Non-relational
- Distributed
- Horizontal scalable
- Schema-free
- Easy APIs
- Eventually consistent
Usually storing data as either a key value pair, or tuple store offering multithreaded concurrent access, NoSQL databases are touted as "Next generation" databases. NoSQL databases are generally (with many twists) data storage solutions that don't require a relational component. Examples include Cassandra, CouchDB, MongoDB, BerkeleyDB. and document stores such as IBM's Lotus Notes/Domino products.
Don't be fooled by the hype. We've come full circle folks.
We're There
FairCom has been providing high performance "NoSQL" database technology for over 30 years! Our ISAM engine provides full ACID compliance, or can be used without any transaction processing at all. Our highly advanced indexing engine provides the fastest record retrieval on the market. An easy API, concurrent locking, and no schemas required are all features that have been enjoyed by c-treeACE programmers since our inception. Replication, HUGE files (18 exabyte!), partitioned files, and advanced encryption can all be used without any SQL relational component. c-treeACE is as relational or non-relational as you want it to be.
Plus, not only is c-treeACE a true performer as a "NoSQL" solution, you can still enjoy SQL relational capabilities along with ISAM performance. Nearly all SQL databases use some form of ISAM technology "under the hood" for their storage engine. For example, myISAM and InnoDB are both ISAM technologies for mySQL. c-treeACE SQL gives you direct access to the record storage engine used by the SQL layer. This flexibility and control to mix and match features allows you to pick the best combination for performance and scalability.
