WWDC, SAN FRANCISCO, CA — June 6, 2005 — FairCom Corporation, a leading provider of high performance database solutions, today announced the worldwide release of the c-tree Server for Mac OS X Server version 10.4 “Tiger”.

FairCom's new database server is able to exploit one of the major new features available in Tiger Server, its 64-bit support. The redesigned kernel and updated system software allows 64-bit addressing for extended memory access, thereby making available huge amounts of memory for application developers. Realizing the significance of this feature, FairCom ported the c-tree Server to Tiger Server so that the developers can take full advantage of 64-bit virtual memory.

“We've supported Apple operating systems for close to twenty years now and run much of our internal infrastructure on Mac hardware,” says Ray Brown, President and Chief Technology Officer of FairCom Corporation. “Once we completed the port using our dual-processor Xserve G5 and implemented it in our own internal infrastructure, the performance was phenomenal.”

“Tiger's leadership in 64 bit computing enables developers to build and run a new generation of powerful applications,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We're excited that FairCom has taken advantage of Tiger Server's 64-bit support to enable the rapid development of high performance database solutions.”

In addition, the new operating system uses the latest version of the GCC compiler, GCC 4.0, featuring support for 64-bit code generation. This high performance compiler provides a standard for easy porting and generation of 64-bit code. Developers using FairCom's c-tree Server SDK, which allows software developers to compile their own custom server, will benefit substantially from both the 64-bit code generation and the performance of this new compiler.

Aside from the 64-bit related features and benefits, the Mac OS X kernel now directly implements the pthreads API for efficiently handling multi-threaded applications on one or more processors. It provides full support including cancellation and synchronization, while minimizing CPU and memory overhead. This robust multi-processor support permits FairCom's multi-threaded servers and applications to take full advantage of each processor, thereby scaling to use all the processing power available.

Porting the c-tree Server to Tiger Server was made easier in part because the new OS supports the industry standard LP64 programming model supported by other 64-bit UNIX systems. Because FairCom supports 64-bit servers for other UNIX platforms, the migration to Tiger Server was straightforward. Other developers should be aware that this support ensures that source code created for other platforms can be easily ported to Tiger.
